Silver Medal winner at the San Francisco World Spirits competition 2019 From Evanston, Illinois, a city that suffered Prohibition for over one hundred years and FEW rather cheekily takes its name from the initials of Frances Elizabeth Willard, a key figure in the Temperance Movement. This spirit, distilled through timeless liquor-making techniques, utilizes a three-grain recipe that infuses generations of Southern tradition with the spiciness of northern rye and a touch of malt for smoothness. FEW is hand-crafted through a small-batch process in charred oak barrels to age its bourbon whiskey. The bottle is adorned with a label showing off some local heritage, depicting a scene from the Chicago World’s Fair of 1892. Nose: Big on the spice (clove and nutmeg) roasted coffee beans, toasted oats and dark caramel, charred oak, baked banana, butterscotch/hot fudge sauce and a touch of fresh mint leaf. Palate: Rich toffee and dark chocolate delivery with notes of honeycomb, toasted spices (clove, nutmeg and cardomom) dark charred oak, aromatic honey and touches of orange rind and mint. Finish: spicy and syrupy, more rich toffee and butterscotch, the spices and charred oak notes continue along with hints of minty rye and chocolate. Plenty to enjoy here and another craft American distillery to get excited about going by the consistent offerings i have tried so far.
