Drag queens, rock stars, and artists congregated at Andy Warhol's famed studio, "the factory". L'usine is a French word that means "factory" and was inspired by his studio. The name pays homage to individuals who want something different from the norm. Winemaker Dave Phinney produced a portfolio to embrace this rebellious side. Dave's enthusiasm and journey to master Pinot Noir continues with l'usine. These wines, sourced from some of the top vineyards he selects in each vintage, express the artistry of the winemaking process. The front labels include art rather than the grape type or provenance, as is customary in this category, to commemorate the rebel within. The labels pay homage to the "Warhols" of the world and represent their influence.
To the eye, a lucid crimson sits in the glass. Aromatics of ripe cranberries, forest floor, morels and a touch of bramble engage. The wine slips onto the palate with a silky, enveloping entry of pure juice and ripe cherry with layers evolving while breathing. Incredibly balanced and riveting, the wine closes with concentration and finesse?an exemplar of drinkability.
