I have a very fond memory of pulling out of Calistoga (Napa) one fine morning and heading northward to unexplored wine destinations on route 128 (no relation). This gently winding road through the Alexander Valley revealed one beautiful vista and familiar quality wine property after another. Maybe this pleasant experience from 20+ years ago still skews my Cabernet preferences, for whenever I'm asked to recommend a $20 Cab this is the wine I gravitate towards.
